Back in February 2020, Premier Tech announced the beginning of a sports partnership with Charles Philibert-Thiboutot — professional and Olympic runner in the 1 500 metres of Rio. During a visit to the Premier Tech Campus, the 29-year-old athlete recounts his athletic career, his daily life in 2020, and how he has been able to stay the course on his Olympic goals despite the current global pandemic situation.
Charles Philibert-Thiboutot was at the top of his game when he first visited the Premier Tech Campus last September. Confident, he tells us all about the beginning of his athletic career.
From a very young age, Charles Philibert-Thiboutot practises a multitude of sports. However, it is running and track and field that most capture his interest as a teenager. Although an individual sport up until then, running took on its full meaning for Charles during his time at Laval University. As a university-level athlete on the Rouge et Or track and field team, Charles discovered the power and energy of a team. For the first time, he is leveraging an unparallelled synergy that will allow him to take his career to an international level.
Today, Charles Philibert-Thiboutot is an Olympic athlete and multiple medallist at the Canadian Championships in track and field and cross-country. With degrees in business administration and public relations, Charles advocates the importance of a healthy balance between his personal life and his professional sports life — especially when sport is such an important part of daily life. It is precisely this balance, and the mindset that results, that allows him to reach his full potential today.
Aiming for the 2021 Olympics
Charles Philibert-Thiboutot was on his way to Tokyo 2020 when the pandemic broke out. Following the postponement of the Olympics, the athlete is determined to turn the situation to his advantage and is approaching this extra year with energy and positivism. As always, his daily focus is on training, good nutrition and a complete and optimal recovery for the upcoming return. Charles Philibert-Thiboutot’s participation in the Olympics will be made certain in the summer of 2021 — just a few months before their opening — and the frenzy is already palpable.
